Introducing aify: Making AI Work for People, Not the Other Way Around

I'm Dave Keys, I've spent over 20 years helping organisations connect their data and understand what's happening inside their organisation in a constant state of technology change, I have also partnered with AI dominant companies like Glean, DataRobot, Salesforce and Snowflake, I understand AI.  aify is what I built when I kept seeing the same gap between AI's promise and what teams actually experience.

On one hand, there’s excitement. AI is everywhere. It promises speed, efficiency, and a completely new way of working. On the other hand, there’s uncertainty. Where do you start? What’s safe? What actually delivers value, and what just adds more noise?

That tension is exactly where aify begins.

aify is an AI advisory practice that helps Australian organisations adopt AI safely, practically, and in a way their people can actually sustain, grounding every engagement in governance, real workflows, and the humans doing the work they want and are best suited to do and using AI for the Frictional elements that make sense.

AI Has a People Problem

For all the talk about technology, AI isn’t really a technology problem. It’s a human one.

Teams are overwhelmed with tools. Leaders are being asked to make decisions without clear frameworks. And employees are caught somewhere in the middle, expected to adopt AI, but unsure how to do it responsibly or effectively.

The result? A lot of activity, but very little clarity.

Using AI tools doesn’t automatically mean an organisation has a strategy. In fact, without knowledge and governance, accountability, and a clear direction, it can create more risk than progress.

aify exists to change that.

A Different Starting Point

Most AI conversations start with the technology. aify starts somewhere else entirely: the business, the people, understanding current company processes and tools and the reality of how work actually gets done. Instead of asking, “What tools should we use?” the question becomes:

  • Where is time being lost?
  • Where are people buried in manual work?
  • Where are decisions slowed down by complexity or uncertainty?

From that base, AI becomes a way to remove friction, not to introduce more of it.

This is what aify calls a governance-first approach. Before anything is deployed, the rules are clear. Who owns outcomes? What data is being used? Where does human judgment still matter? It’s not about slowing things down. It’s about making progress sustainable.

Keeping the Human in the Loop

There’s a common fear that AI replaces people, but in practice, the opposite is often true. The real opportunity is to give people their time back, so they can focus on the work that actually requires human judgement, creativity, and care.

Whether it’s reducing administrative load in HR, improving decision-making in finance, or helping frontline teams respond faster without losing quality, the goal is the same: AI handles the repetitive work, people handle what matters.

That balance is where organisations start to feel the real impact, not just in efficiency, but in morale, confidence, and outcomes.

From Uncertainty to Confidence

One of the biggest barriers to AI adoption isn’t capability, it’s confidence.

Boards are asking questions about risk. Leaders are unsure what “good” looks like. Teams don’t know what’s acceptable or expected. aify works at that level by embedding AI leadership directly into organisations, which helps translate complexity into something practical. Not theory. Not endless strategy documents. Real, actionable steps that connect AI to business outcomes and known ROI.

Within weeks, organisations gain clarity:

  • Where the risks are
  • Where the highest-value opportunities sit
  • What to do first, and what to ignore

And importantly, that clarity is shared across the business, not locked away in a single team.

AI That Fits Your Reality

No two organisations are the same. Different industries, different pressures, different ways of working. That’s why aify doesn’t come in with a fixed platform or a one-size-fits-all solution.

Instead, it works with what already exists. The focus is on aligning AI with real operational needs, whether that’s improving compliance in regulated industries, unlocking insights from unused data, or simplifying complex workflows that drain time and energy.

It’s practical. Grounded. And designed to work in the real world, not just on paper. Not another drop-in consultant. There’s a reason many organisations are sceptical. They’ve seen AI projects before, like pilot programs that never scale, tools that go unused, and strategies that sit in slide decks.

aify takes a different stance. It doesn’t step in, deliver a plan, and step out again. It stays close to the work, is embedded at the leadership level, and is accountable for outcomes alongside the organisation. Because real change doesn’t happen at handover. It happens in the doing. For example, in high compliance industries, the time and effort spent looking up rules and regulations is easily replaced by AI automatically looking up compliance requirements and ensuring, or at least identifying gaps that humans often miss or spend days and weeks chasing and compiling details - a natural fit for AI that frees the humans up to be able to do more valuable human-centric work

Where This Starts

This is the first of many conversations. Because AI isn’t a single decision or a one-off project. It’s a shift in how organisations operate, make decisions, and create value. And like any meaningful shift, it starts with people.

  • Understanding how they work.
  • Where they struggle.
  • What they need to do their best work.
  • Considering change management impacts.

From there, everything else follows.

I started aify because I could see the gap forming between what AI promises and what organisations are actually experiencing day to day. Too many teams are being asked to move faster without the clarity, structure, or confidence to do so properly.

What excites me most is helping organisations cut through that noise. To find a path that makes sense for them, grounded in their people, their challenges, and their goals. AI shouldn’t feel overwhelming or out of reach. With the right approach, it becomes something practical, valuable, and genuinely empowering.

I’m looking forward to working alongside more teams to shape that path forward.
